Having attended a boarding school in the 1980s and 90s, I was intrigued by this book. The truth is that it gave rise to a whole series of memories and uncomfortable conclusions about my time in one and also about boarding schools themselves.
While they have changed a lot over time, there still remains an undercurrent of bullying, abandonment and a suggestion that there is a viable preparation for the ‘real world’. What this book exposes is that young boys who are victims of this abusing culture then become our leaders. As such the book centres on Farage, Cameron and Johnson and looks at why they are so confidently unable to do their jobs properly. The anecdotes concerning their behaviour at school are disturbing in the extreme.
